Game already running problem

I have been playing rdr2 through vortex and the game has been working fine, but i realized the mods i wanted to play with need lml to load them. when i start the game using the rdr 2 icon in the rdr2 main folder, lml finds the game and says waiting for game to start. then i get an white error box saying game is already running.
anyone know a work around to this problem ?
