So I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14 and started birth control when I was 15. I’m now 23 and decided to stop birth control to see what would happen. It’s been about 6 months since I stopped. The first month after stopping I had a normal period and then I didn’t have a period for about 5 months. About a month ago, I started spotting and this lasted on and off for about 10 days. Gradually it became heavier and now I’m going on 3 and a half weeks of a full on heavy period.
I’m not sure if this is just my body readjusting after being on birth control for 8 years or if my periods are going back to the way they used to be before I started BC. One of the reasons I was diagnosed with PCOS so early is because I was having these extreme cycles where I wouldn’t have a period for 3-4 months and then bleed for 3-4 weeks straight. I’m also noticing that I’m breaking out more both on my face and body and my facial hair is growing in faster (but I was sort of expecting those things).
Not sure if I should make an appointment with my OBGYN about my period not stopping or if she’ll just tell me that’s it’s my body readjusting. If my period goes on any longer I’m considering going back on birth control because this is ruining my quality of life. Would love to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience with their periods lasting super long after they get off birth control. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thank you!
