I've been lurking in this and similar forums for a few years now, and I just wanted to say thanks for the help information from this forum has brought me. I, 33, have always had minor PCOS symptoms most of my life (severe cramps excess hair, very overweight, depression, ect), but I just wrote them off as normal, but around two years ago, I started experiencing heavy bleeding at least three times a month. my doctor didn't do much, checked for and found cysts, and just threw a few birth controls at me until one finally evened things out. I unfortunately had to stop it due to it causing pain during intimacy, my already low libido to tank. the end of last year's, I missed several periods, had several cysts rupture, and in general felt tired and miserable. after reading posts from so many of you, I went to my doctor and asked to be tested for PCOS. She said, "You almost definitely have it, but let's do the tests," and put me on medroxyprogesterone, and we will probably be starting metformin at my next visit. let me tell yall, my life has done a 180! my periods are normal and regular, and I've felt almost no food cravings, I've lost over 20lbs without trying, and I have energy like I've never had before. It also improved my love life. I went from once a week, maybe, to almost every day (sometimes more). it's so odd to think one little med would change my life so much, but it has. I plan to change Dr's eventually, and I'm excited to see what trying metformin will bring. Getting diagnosed has changed my life for the better in countless ways, and it made me feel like I am capable of making more changes myself, I'm better than I've ever been, even on my best days, and I'm so grateful to this forum. thanks to all of you.
