31F, have crossposted on a hormones subreddit so apologies if you've seen this twice!
My blood test results have come back 'borderline' and my Dr has recommended I try the Yasmin combined contraceptive pill.
I am cisgendered with a family history of PCOS, though I'd need an ultrasound to confirm PCOS, I have acne in my 30s and some hair thinning, as well as slightly high testosterone.
My blood was taken on day 5 of my cycle, these are the results:
17-Beta Oestradiol - 137.0 pmol/L
Luteinising Hormone - 8.1 IU/L
Follicle Stim. Hormone - 7.0 IU/L
Prolactin - 227.0
Sex Hormone Binding Glob - 67.4 nmol/L
Testosterone - 1.78 nmol/L
Thyroid Stim. Hormone - 1.630 MIU/L
So I understand that my testosterone is slightly high, and I think my oestradiol reading is potentially slightly low?
Just wondering if someone here with more knowledge than I can shed any more light on these results and whether the Yasmin pill is likely a good choice for me?
Yasmin is ethinylestradiol and drospirenone. It is meant to be equivalent to 25mg of the medicine Spironolactone. I understand that people are taking much higher doses of around 100mg, but with only slightly elevated testosterone levels, would Yasmin's lower dose of the antiandrogen likely be a good idea for me?
I'm in the UK where the NHS doesn't love to spend extra money on diagnosis and treatment for non-life-threatening type stuff, I can try pushing for an ultrasound and believe I'd need to be on Yasmin for a while first before being allowed to try Spiro.
