Should I give up high ground to contest the objective on offense?

I usually play tanks and from them Rein mostly. I always wondered if my team has positional advantage over the defenders, should I stay there and wait for a pick or should I give up the advantage and jump on the objective to get more fights in?
Some examples : Going top right on Anubis A, top left on Volskaya A, top right on Hanamura B, right high ground on Dorado last.
