From my experiences around console Gold, high ground is often avoided. Compared to watching high rank gameplay on places like Dorado and Route 66, most players will solely focus fighting on low ground around the cart.
Obviously taking high ground gives the team an advantage of covering better angles and making it difficult to be pushed through when defending, but since no one in the low ranks goes for it, it sometimes feels disadvantageous trying to use it. Due to low/no communication, people will either play low ground against your positioning or waterfall off the moment they see an enemy. When I’m on tank, I’m forced to drop to protect the team, and when I’m on support i have to reposition so i don’t lose them round corners/leave myself susceptible to snipers/divers. (DPS like soldier are normally fine so im focusing on the other two roles).
I often hear the advice along the lines of “don’t play to your rank’s level if you want to rank up, you have to play above them”, but using high ground in that way often leads to isolation and feeling inefficient when no one else is trying to use it.
In your experiences, is there any tips to using high ground even if you are up there alone, or is it better to just play with the rest of the team as a stack of five on the floor?
