I love playing support and tank heroes. My heart and soul however tends to be in support and support classes in general of any game. I had this issue in OW1 and of course I also played all the Tank heroes and some dps heroes. I also enjoy playing tank as well but like I said, my hearts in support despite feeling just about as competent playing tank as I do support.
That said, Iāve been having this issue where there just isnāt enough support heroes in this game. Not to mention some lackluster boring abilities.
For example, Baptisteās Regenerative Burst. Itās just a AoE HoT. Not a buff, not a debuff. Just focuses as a heal. Thatās great for healing obviously but itās uninspired.
Idk about what you all consider to be a support class but in the games Iāve played a support class either heals, buffs, or debuffs the enemy to help support the team.
Blizzard is reducing the amount of CC but stuns, roots and slows arenāt the only debuffs. Reduction to Attack speed, ability cooldown, fall off range. You could even add DMG if you would like. Adding a DoT to Regenerative Burst would be more interesting than as is. Although Iām not saying they should. The bottom line point Iām making is that not only do we donāt have many support heroes but also rather boring abilities. Additionally, when it comes to healing, Baptiste is just Ana with a small burst AoE to heal and is more mobile with his crouch ability.
As a side note, I do rather enjoy Kiriko as a support hero. Sheās mobile, she feels impactful. Im still trying to get my rhythm and what situations I find her most useful in for myself but otherwise itās nice she exists at all and therefore Iām appreciative.
I just wish there had been more new heroes and specifically support ones. Preferably not the way Doomfist became a tank. I know other heroes like Sym have had their roles and kits changed as well but it feels like the transition to dps to Tank/Support is more jarring than Tank/support to Dps. We havenāt a dps to support yet but I still feel of it were to happen itd still feel jarring for the players who had played that hero. Who knows, devs said Sombra was considered to be a support. I personally would prefer no as much as I like sombra. But my only reason against it is just my lack of trust of the devs to make it work. So I would like to be proven wrong.
The reason why this is bothersome more so now and part of the reason why I disliked it on OW1 is the the role queue. You can argue that I could just not choose to be support, I typically choose both Tank and Support and will often find myself as a support. I donāt mind playing support. I just want more options instead of playing the same handful.
āIf youāre bored of support just play Tank.ā Yeah I know. Thatās obvious. I do that but I feel like the lack of support options is gonna kill my interest in the game. Because I know if I decided to play more Tank Iād feel very similar because Tank isnāt exactly rolling in options in comparison to dps.
Look, if they CAN take some dps heroes and make them other roles I guess Iād be fine. Itās just Iād hope theyād make sure to stick with the choice and try to make it work. Because it does seem the devs had the mindset to have some of the heroes that exist in their current roles as potentially other roles during development. I just wonder if 5v5 really promotes that.
If I may say, despite my feelings of the support options, 5v5 does allow for more fast paced play. Your choice of hero feels more impactful. However some heroes clearly are doing better than others but thatās always been the case obviously.
Do you all feel similarly? Would this effect your interest in the game in the long run? Maybe youāre a tank player feeling similarly.
