Can't interrupt Zarya's beam with grenade anymore?

Maybe I'm crazy, or maybe I changed a setting without realizing it, but I swear you used to be able to hold left click for Zarya's particle beam, and while holding left click down you could right click to interrupt the beam and shoot out a grenade, then resume beaming. But just today I played a few games with Zarya and hitting right click while holding down left click did nothing, I just continued to fire the beam. Is this a bug or a deliberate change? Or was this never a thing and my memory is just crap?
