If you still play competitive, I'm so sorry for you. I genuinely am, the experience this past 2 months has been completely miserable.
I'm a Plat 2 - Diamond 4 player, been fluctuating in that area since the beginning of OW2. I primarily play tank, but I do flex to other roles, and play the other roles alot in quick play.
The competitive experience, is completely destroyed, and it's not even close to balanced, it feels like it doesn't follow the mmr systems at all anymore, it's arguably worse than quick play, at this point.
I played 8 games tonight, all on tank, and in each game, I felt like I contributed nothing to fights. I played 5 practice games in qp, that I won all 5 of, practiced all of my techs and things, and felt like I was having an impact on the games outcome, but in the competitive games, I felt like a glorified spectator bot, as if I was barely even there.
Damage Numbers: This is part one, of many complaints I had in all of my games. Moving into OW2, they made buffs across the board to tanks, to make them more tank-aligned, and fit better in the vision of OW2. I haven't felt, or seen, any of the extra tanky-ness at all. Not even a little bit. The damage numbers on dps are outright ridiculous, and if I so much as peek without a sustainability cooldown, i will die, and there is absolutely nothing I can really do about it. Hope my kiri had suzu ready? 🤷♂️ Many hitscan dps can put up numbers in the 2k region, in a single team fight. For reference, that's 10 dead squishy targets. One team fight, and a soldier or Cass, even ashe's to a degree. Tanks do similar damage, but it's usually never that aggregious, and you only really see those numbers, when it's a rein swinging on a group of 3, for a minute straight. The raw amount of burst damage in the game, removes the ability, for human error. I'm talking, one bad peek, led to a lost team fight, led to them building hanzo dragons faster, led to them- you see where this is going. I understand it, you see [eliminated soldierplayer33] and it makes the brain go WOO, but at the end of the day is that actually healthy for the longevity of the game?
Lack of Communication: This is a more important part of my complaints, that doesn't have alot to be said about it. The ping system is in the game. Pay attention to it. Use it. If you don't. Get in the voice, and make some calls, or at least listen to the ones, other people are making. If someone is being a problem, mute them. Be the bigger person, and face your problems head on. Blocking someone on overwatch, isn't gonna get you ddossed or something.
Lack of Change: This, is the one I feel the heaviest. We have had the same, barely changed roster, for YEARS. With the drop of OW2, we have 4 new characters. Okay, cool I guess. But, the games been out almost a year. OW has been out for well over half a decade. And rein, is still the same old rein, with another fire strike, and a slightly better charge. Nothing else, that's it. They gave reworks to sombra's hack, bastion, and that was it. No new abilities for heroes that have been around for 6 years. Not alot of cool updates, or new lore for them. Nothing. Just a flashy new skin and the promise of some story lore for all the characters. One day. I say screw that, rework everyone. Give rein a headbutt, give sigma a roundhouse kick or a gravity suck like a hog hook. Give genji the energy blasts with his sword, give echo wrist rockets, make mercy into a staff fighter who beats people up with her staff as a melee weapon, who cares! It's a video game at the end of the day, and it's stale. It's all just an old, beat up video game, with a big }NEW{ sticker slapped on the front, and a big 2 drawn on. Rework more characters. Get creative with it. Go crazy. Put through more April fools patches to live. I want it all. At least the game would be interesting to play again.
Counter-swap meta: Technically this isn't. Fully a thing. But, it's very true, that for tanks specifically, swapping, half the time, is a better option than ulting. You could build a 3 second minefield with Hammond. But they're on Orisa so, probably better to switch. It's getting old quick. Coming out on a fun hero you wanna play, and instantly getting shut down.
"MMR", and the new player situation: I don't know if anyone else has noticed it, but Plat comp is absolutely flooded, with new players. Half the time, I feel like I'm fighting against, "who has the most new people". Or, getting one, clearly new person, and the enemy team doesn't. Sure. I can't 100% prove they're new, but I see the standard OW icon with no banner, in my comp games alot more now than I ever did before. Either, the MMR system is completely gone, and the season is screwed, or, there are a TON of new players getting into comp right now.
Finally, Supports: Supports. I have played alot of support. 100 hours on zen, upwards of 50 on both brig and ana. You guys have things, so so good. You have no idea, how good you have it. Every time I play support, I feel like I'm untouchable, unstoppable, it is genuinely so easy to carry, on support, its insane. You guys constantly complain about never getting new shiny things, when, 2 of the 3 last supports to get released, literally were hard meta for MONTHS after their release. Kiri is still meta to this day. Your heroes are broken. All of them are extremely strong, and to say that supports are weak, compared to tank or dps, you are lying to yourself. And, if you ever get tired of thinking, and having to aim you can just. Swap to the Winged devil, and carry a whole comp game on your back, by damage boosting to your heart's content. Supports have, and will always be, the strongest heroes in overwatch, and it's not even close. I think damage numbers need to go down, but healing numbers need to drop a little as well.
