Coop between Mac and Windows STEAM gets so laggy and not playable

My friend bought the Overcooked 2 thru STEAM (he’s on mac) but every time we coop, either his chef can’t move a thing or his chef keeps moving out of control.
I’ve seen a similar issue years ago and I’m hoping there’s actually a fix for this?
