Four star classes

Was there an update recently that requires you to take 4 star classes before 5 star? Lots of posts are talking about saving orns and skipping 4 star, but the requirements of those classes seem to suggest that it's not possible.
With that said I'm sitting on 150K orns and have all of the 3 star and below. What is the best entry level 4 star to go? I have been sticking with melee, but am open to spell casting.
Level 105 atm.
