We took some interesting Mod mail over the past week and here are some of our replies/thoughts - all by u/super_secret_name, u/Mr_Secret_name, and myself.

There can't be that much spam is there?

r/OregonSwingers gets on average 30-40 posts and anywhere from 15-100 comments A DAY of spam. No kidding. If you look through my history, [u/Mr_Secret_Name] you will see a post where I shared a screenshot just from the comments on just ONE POST, and that wasn't even that old of a post. There are a few things to note about all of this though. (1) We have/had(?) finally gotten our automoderator set up really well and that stopped about 60% of spam. (2) Furthermore, with the addition of Title Tags and Post Flair, we were able to cut this back another 30%. However, (3) just as soon as we got one thing working, the spammers (specifically OnlyFans) would catch on and move those back 20-30% - it's a never-ending game. (4) The previous 'owner' of this subreddit (you can still see his name as the creator here) ran about 40 similarly named subs <state>swingers and because he was absent for so long and all of his subs have similar names, these subs worked their way into every spammer's list. (5) (and this one gets me) there are just so damn many single guys feeding the spammers here that we can't keep up. These guys answer these spammer's posts, instead of reporting them, and our sub goes back into their queue as an active sub full of gullible thirsty men and it's rinse and repeat. It's exponentially worse in r/OregonGoneWild, too. Myself and the other mods have all sworn to keep spam out of sight for you all and we stand by this; the sad reality is, with Reddit's changes, we can't guarantee that.

How do other subs control their spam.

Ever hear the line, "The solution to pollution is dilution"? If you're an Oregonian living near the Willamette River, you've probably heard this since you were born. Anyways, when a sub gets so big and they get so many contributions a day, like r/gonewild, there are enough users and posters, that the spam gets diluted. They also have enough active users that when spam gets posted, someone either reports it and/or the non-spam gets upvoted. Within an hour, the spam is washed out while the non-spam is promoted. For most users, when you visit a sub of that size, you are only sorting by "Hot" and therefore you'll never see that spam, even if it never got reported - but go there now and sort by "New" and you'll see spam and dick pics as far as the eye can see - and yes, that's also part of why dick pics are allowed there, they just never make it to the "hot" page. If we took this approach, this sub would once again, as it was when we took over, just filled with dick pics and spam. Go look at some of the other Oregon NSFW subs that are not modded by us and hopefully you see why we are/were(?) different.

I tried to verify for the private sub but you ignored me.

We ignored you because you ignored the instructions, repeatedly. If you need help, let us know, but sending pictures of some random face and some random couple in Disneyland is not enough to get verified. Read the instructions we pointed you to in the first reply and if you're still confused, let us know and we'll be happy to help.

If this is our sub why are you mods controlling what we see?

Believe it or not, we all understand this. Two things here: Reddit only works by contributors making contributions and mods doing their part to cut down on spam and keep things on-topic and flowing. Reddit is taking away contributor's tools (Imgur, Redgifs, Reddit Is Fun, Apollo, etc.) and they are taking away mod's tools to fight spam and do actual mod duties. Reddit as we all know it is about to die and something, who knows what, will become the next Reddit, at least if our voices are not heard and acted upon by Reddit. It's because of this, that we are doing what we can to keep Reddit, well, Reddit. If we can't do our mod duties, and the sub fills with everything besides swingers, then why would anyone come here? If you were here before we took over, you know that this sub was nothing but dick pics and spam. Not a couple in sight. So, mods keeping it clean = more real couples.

Lol. Yes, we've gotten a few of these now. It's unfortunate to see this insult making it's way back from the depths of the 90's. However, we are really glad those of you who sent this and similar insults to us so that we could ban and block you. No one should ever be forced to see what your opinion is. Also, there's only one guy here and he's married but I guess this goes back to the intelligence of someone who would use that kind of slur. Intelligence is sexy, you are not sexy.

Nope. For every good single guy out there, and we know there are some (we really know lol) there's a wall of bad ones just behind you. I think I speak for all of us in saying that we just need a break. The swingers of Oregon have told us that they need a break. There are lots of Oregon subs out there and we encourage you to go to them and while you are there, take this time to help some of your fellow single men. Teach them about reporting spam, not feeding spam, and that no man in the history of time has gotten laid just by showing his dick. It's a win-win-win if you do.

Guys, single guys that is, this is a swinger subreddit. This has never been a place that was designed for you. We put up r/OregonMenGoneWild just for you - that was your home! And as you requested, we allowed and even directed couples who were seeking single men there. To come here and get all butthurt is like the Karen screaming that she wants a Big Mac inside a Taco Bell and berating the other customers (I think I got that analogy right, u/Mr_Secret_Name?).
