Orbot iOS & Bridges

I have been using Orbot on iOS since it was officially released not that long ago. It was working great until a few days ago when it started no longer connecting. It would just get stuck at 5/10/15%, never higher. I decided to turn on bridges and it is now working. My question is: Is there any downside to using Bridges, either for myself or the network?
