Alternative to OpenShot

It keeps freezing up on me. I'm simply making videos for my podcast. Basically it's an audio track with a slideshow. Just wondering if something works better. I don't want to pay for a video editor when I'm making a simple video to put YouTube. My mac is pretty old and maybe that is the problem. I can't get imovie to either. It won't save my project.
