Question about Zener diodes

Hey ya'll,
I'm in the process of putting together a VV device and wanted some incite on low voltage regulation. The box it's self will be running from 4.2 to 7 volts and will not be using any other regulation such as the okr chips. My question is will a diode like this one allow me to prevent the cells from dropping below 3.1 volts?
