Cheat Codes Not Working for gBA

I've been trying to input codes for Pokémon Emerald and Fire Red, but nothing works. I've been putting them correctly, making sure the code belongs to the correct game and region, and still nothing. I've heard that it possibly has to do with the cores, but no codes work on any of the cores. Does anyone have a fix for this or at least run into the same problem?
