I started reading the Bible from start to finish.
Post Body

Am only up to Noah’s Ark after two nights of reading and plan to finish the whole book one day. I know that’s not how to read it but it’s more of a challenge and I wanna teach myself what’s all actually in there.

How many of you finished reading it completely and how long did it take?

So I found my way to this post via another post you made.

I have read the Bible cover-to-cover, though there are parts that were brutal to understand. I have been through two Sunday school adventures where we spent 12 to 18 months going through every book of the Bible.

Then it occurred to me. The Gospels. Really, when all is said and done, it is the teachings of Christ, not the Laws of Moses that we have adopted to drive our faith. I understand that the Church feels that the entire book is important. That we have an Old Testament Reading and a New Testament Reading, and a Reading of the Gospel every Saturday or Sunday service. The Bible is 66 books 1,189 chapters and my opinion is that these 4 books should be your beginning, your middle and the end of your exploration. And if someday, you find that you can accept yourself and your believes within these pages, then consider reading the rest of the Bible, some of the stories are great! But I should also add that I watched a lot of Veggietales growing up.

But we you are trying to decide if the Bible contains and reflects your faith, skip the history lesson for the time being. Just read and do your best to understand and reflect upon the Gospels, the Words and Teachings of Christ. And if someday, you find that you can accept yourself and your believes within these pages, then consider reading the rest of the Bible, some of the stories are great! But I should also add that I watched a lot of Veggie Tales growing up.

I actually have a high appreciate for that. It's a very noble idea. But I would still state that starting with the Gospels would be important. At least from the Christian perspective, though I would alter that pursuit by reading the Gospels and then reading the Torah (the 5 Books of Moses). With the exception of the 10 Commandments, Christians have largely ignored the Laws of Moses, which you likely know are categorized as Moral Laws, Social Laws, Food Laws, Purity Laws, Feasts, Sacrifices and Offerings, and Instructional information for Priests, build of Tabernacles, and other things.

While all of these things most assuredly were impacting Christ's thinking, he did do a lot to simplify theology in an era when Roman society was building structural civilization.

I really look forward to following you as you take this journey. Just remember, God always delivers the right thing at the right time. God delivered the Commandments to Moses, Moses interpreted the commandments and created Laws and Instructions that were perfect for the time when the Hebrews were on a nomadic pilgrimage to find their new home, their promised land. In Christ's time, in the Roman province of Judea, things were much different.

So tell me first, what do you hope to discover? What revelation do you seek? And if you do not mind one more question, what burning life question do you have that you know this quest will not answer?
