Hey all, first time poster here. I was raised in a fundamentalist/conservative Christian household, but recently have been deconstructing my faith. I had a major crisis of faith a couple months ago when I felt like I just stopped “hearing” from God (like I would pray, but wouldn’t feel peace or comforted or connected). This has led me to seriously consider why I’m a Christian at all.
Although I’ve believed that evolution is true for several years now, I recently got really interested in the science of human evolution, and have been trying to figure out how that reconciles with the Christian genesis. In fact, it seems to me that other religions have origin stories that match current scientific evidence much more closely (Such as certain verses about the origin of humans in the Quran).
I‘m highly analytical and therefore really discouraged by where my evidence search has brought me. I don’t want to lose my faith, but I’ve always felt that if the Christian origin story is true (including theistic evolution or even the “set in motion” universe), then scientific evidence would support it.
Wonderful people of this subreddit: What are your thoughts about this? How do you know Christianity is the “right” religion? What if a different religion got it right and we’re just stuck to this one out of comfort/fear?
Looking to have a friendly, respectful, open discussion.
EDIT: My confusion about the origin story is more meant to illustrate an example of why I’m not sure why I believe Christianity over any other religion. Even given reading it as a metaphor, because I’m highly motivated by tangible evidence, I’m struggling with the question of why Christianity would be more “right” than other systems of belief.
