Finding a new church
Post Body

So, I had a talk with my wife about changes in my beliefs and no longer being a fundamentalist or evangelical.

We spent some time with our neighbors, who are Mormon. She asked me later about whether I thought they would go to hell, because she couldn’t fathom that. They’re good people who are trying to follow Jesus and love others.

I asked her if she really wanted to know my thoughts. She did, so I told her I don’t think anyone is spending eternity in hell. I explained that’s why I struggle with our fundamentalist church. I no longer think the Bible is the “inerrant word of God.” It takes more faith to believe oral history and stories passed down for decades or centuries before being written down are without mistake. That the Council of Nicaea were able to validate what fits that exacting standard.

She understood and asked if we should visit other churches. I don’t know where to start. We’re in suburban Dallas, so most everything is evangelical fundamentalism. Looks like Methodist/Episcopal/Presbyterian are options but I legitimately don’t know what would fit my new belief system. How does someone figure this out?
