Can LL do this? Totally unjustified!

Post Body

I've been living in this apartment since 2019. It's a 2 bedroom and I've only agreed to rent one of the rooms and things have been flowing smoothly until Nov 2023 when new owners showed up. This new landlord (property management) is now asking me to pay double for the full 2 bedroom unit.

I tried to explain to her that I never paid more than my share ($1 K) but she is not agreeing which has forced me to find a new roommate for 2024. Despite this, LL is still harassing with N4 asking for the 2 months. I have agreed to pay my share ($2 K) but she is not withdrawing it from my account and keeps pressing for 4K for the two months.

I have PAD agreement with previous LL and bank statements proving the amount I have been paying for 5 years. Can she now evict me based on some random claim that I am the one liable for the entire 2 bedroom apartment?

EDIT: THANK YOU so much to all of you who took the time to reply and give me some peace of mind about this whole situation. Reddit rocks!

EDIT 2: For now, I have gathered enough information, thanks to all your awesome replies. I will be updating this once I know more!
