Is it reasonable to ask a potential new partner to get tested before having any kind of intimate relations?

I started going out on dates with someone new and we’re both really interested in each other. We met over an online app and I want to ask them to get tested before French kissing or penetrating them. Am I being unreasonable? They seemingly has no issue with the request, but all my friends told me I was being very unreasonable if I expected anyone I wanted to date or sleep with to meet that standard. What do you think?
