It’s about 10:30pm. In around two or three hours I’ll turn off the TV I’m only half watching anyways, throw off the two heavy blankets I’ve buried myself under, turn off the lamp, and make the slow trudge up the stairs to floss, brush, water pick, and rinse with mouthwash. That whole dental hygiene routine will probably take a mere two and a half hours, so I should be sliding into bed by like 3am at the latest. (I’m only half joking.)

It will be the end to a busy day. A good day. I ran errands, made a great soup from scratch, built a pair of snowmen (lol no I don’t have kids), watched a movie, and did what felt like about thirty-seven loads of laundry.

But idk. Something is missing tonight. Ok, two things are missing.

1. I’m not sure where my socks are at the moment. At the moment this is nbd—did I mention the thick heavy blankets I’m under—but it would be nice to not have ten freezing little piggies by the time I make it to bed.

2. The other thing that’s missing is a little less immediate and easy to describe. It’s a something. It’s a someone. It’s a late night banter session that touches on thoughts both trivial and deep. It’s the joy of connecting and exploring with someone totally unfamiliar. It’s a look across the table at a restaurant…the kind of look that makes you wonder if she’s thinking the same thing I’m thinking.

I’m not looking to change situations. I’m not looking to take up all of your time.
