I'll admit it: I'm a sucker for precise and competent writing. It signals intelligence, and that is extremely attractive to me.
A major red flag for me in Reddit postings is seeing things like "it's" being confused with "its," or "your" in place of "you're." And don't get me started on eggcorns ("for all intensive purposes," "taken for granite," etc.). When you're messaging or texting someone, these errors can really ruin the vibe. Likewise, a good turn of phrase or spot-on word choice can really spark something.Â
These preferences grow out of a love of books and a passion for writing. I'm an academic, so those things are a big part of who I am as a professional and as a person.Â
I'm much more likely to ask "What are you reading?" than "What are you wearing?"Â Does this make me a superior person? Nope. And I apologize if this whole thing comes off as being stuffy and pretentious.
But what can I say? I like what I like.
Anyway, if any of this strikes a chord with you, let's start talking and see where it leads. I don't have any elaborate master plan in that regard.
