How many devil fruits are lost forever?

I was wondering how many devil fruits would be hidden around the world, not having been found for centuries.
Assuming devil fruits don't have a "use by" date there should many that have been buried or lost in the ocean, never to be found again. Maybe some are hidden within caves that have collapsed and compressed back into a part of a mountain. Many could be locked within the crystal ice.
It could explain why certain versions are so rare. Take the dinosaur zoan fruits for example. Many would exist but few would be findable since so much time has passed.
