Fellow nakama,

One Piece has been a big part of my life for about 3 years now. I've watched the whole anime, am currently rewatching, and keeping up to date with the manga and it has been a pillar of stability during a time in my life filled with change. So I wanted to share a few of the many reasons I love One Piece with you. Hopefully you guys share my feelings. Let me know where you agree, and share your other reasons for why you love it!

The first and most obvious reason is just that it's an incredible story and really well done anime/manga. I have watched many anime series in my life including most of the well known shonen series. One Piece was actually the last major one I watched, and I'm really glad because after watching it, none of the others really compare in my opinion. OP somewhat ruined other great series for me in that sense, but it gave me so much in return. I think one of the best thing about OP that really stands out is the incredible world building that Oda has achieved. Very few other anime really accomplish the breadth of the world that OP has. Longevity is also a major factor. It's been going for 20 years and very well might go for another 20. However, despite that long span, it really hasn't lost any quality over its life, which is an incredible feat.

Another reason I love One Piece is because it gives me somewhere to go when everything else in my life is hectic or depressing or lonely. I feel at home with the Strawhats as I travel the Grand Line on the Merry and Sunny. Like Oda said he had hoped to accomplish in his recent announcement, I feel like part of the crew, and that I've gained friends over the course of this great journey (even though they're just fictional characters). If I'm sad, I can count on them to cheer me up. If I'm lonely I can just "hang out" with them and go on some adventures. It's an amazing thing that I haven't experienced with any other series.

Lastly, while OP is a great story and makes me feel like a part of the crew, it doesn't lack anything in terms of just the straight up action and fighting that I look for in anime. You'd think that with such a good story, the battles might be lacking a bit. But nope, that's not the case. Sure they're not the best anime fights I've seen, but I never get tired of seeing Luffy kick someone's ass or Zoro cut someone down. Simply exhilarating.
