Ace always had a huge problem with the question: Is it good that I was born? Should I even exist? My dad was the most infamous pirate/evil man ever who everybody hates and therefore I am just a relic of that slime that never should have existed.
But to me, Gol D. Roger is one of the, if not the coolest, best most awesome characters in One Piece. He is essentially idolized from the very beginning of the story. Pirates are idolized as well of course and marines/the rest of the world are portrayed as the ones who are immoral/messed up.
So it was very confusing to me for two reasons. First of all, as a viewer/reader, I never side with the random citizens/world government that hates roger. Why then, would ace put any credibility into what they say about roger? Aren't ace and I supposed to be on the same page if I am to identify with his reasoning?
Second of all, if he did put credibility into what they are saying, why would he try to be a pirate for his entire life? He is basically trying to be like roger. This seems like the opposite of trying to escape Roger's legacy to me.
Did anyone else follow a similar thought process?
