Is it true that a guy won’t befriend a girl to just be friends?

I’ve noticed that when I get along with a guy and hope to become good friends, eventually somehow the friendship becomes really one-sided???

Do guys and girls only stay friends if there’s some kind of transactional benefit (Like studies, work, romantic relations, etc.) from each other?

The only other male-female friendship that do last (to some extent) are the ones where both know each other from school or smth.

Would appreciate your insight on this!

P.S. I’ve been in the country almost a year now but this still baffles me lol
