OKC has now gone the way of other sleezy dating sites by withholding basic information, then offering to make it viewable again for a fee. In the past I felt that OKC was the best, and the only dating site with any actual integrity.
When it was sold to IAC/InterActiveCorp, operators of Match.com, for US$50 million [Feb 2011] Editorial posts from 2010 by an OkCupid founder—Match.com and pay-dating were criticized for exploiting users and being "fundamentally broken"—were removed from the OkCupid blog at the time of the acquisition. As would be expected, I suppose, they are now gutting the brand and dispensing with any semblance of good faith by crippling the user experience and offering to sell it back for a fee.
At first they offered additional services for the fee, which I felt was somewhat acceptable, but not allowing members to view their own viewer history beyond the last few is an obvious and abhorrent attempt to extort money from users who in the past enjoyed the quality and goodwill of the previous owners, and rewarded that with loyalty and a stellar reputation.
It's all history now. I will no longer take the site or the company seriously, and I encourage everyone who believes this is bad faith to immediately assign them the reputation they now deserve.
