Golden Dragon Tincture (ABV compatible)

Post Body

With tinctures and edibles being so expensive in Ohio right now having a cheaper option is definitely welcome. Enter the (Golden) Dragon. It’s by far the easiest diy way to make quality tincture that I have found. It can be taken sublingually, eaten or mixed in with something as is or used to make many kinds of edibles. So without further ado, lets get started!

What you need:

Flower (as much or as little as you want) 2-3 mason jars Unbleached coffee filters Rubberband 75 or 95% alcohol (I use everclear) Gloves

Step 1: Decarboxylization

This step is necessary if you want the high from your tincture. If you only want the medicinal benefits without the high skip this step. If you are using ABV then skip this step.

A coarse grind of flower works best.

After grinding everything up lay it out on a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Cover the top with aluminum foil and bake at 225 f for 45 minutes.

Take it out and let it cool for another 30 before removing the foil.

Step 2: Preparation

Now that you have decarbed the flower put it into a mason jar.

Put that jar and the bottle of alcohol in the freezer overnight. Some say 24 hours but 8 seems to be fine.

Take them out the next day and add alcohol to the mason jar with flower in it. You only want to use the bare minimum where it covers the flower entirely but no more. If you use more it will be weaker or you will have to evaporate the alcohol later.

Shake the jar vigorously for 30 seconds then put it back in the freezer.

From here on it’s up to you how long to go. I leave it in the freezer for 3 days shaking the jar for 30 seconds once a day. It can be done in as soon as an hour or keep going for a month. 3 days seems like a sweet spot for me.

Step 3: Filtering

This can be messy so beware.

Start out by rubberbanding a coffee filter around the mouth of whatever you want to filter into. I use a measuring cup so I can pour it into vials.

Take the jar out of the freezer and give it one last shaking.

Slowly pour into the filter making sure not to overflow. When you are down to the last bit make sure to get all the plant material out of the jar too.

Give it a half hour or so then squeeze out whatever liquid is left in the grounds. Cut the corner off a ziplock bag, put the filter/grounds in and squeeze it with your hands is a good method. I filter it again using the same process but you don’t have to. There will be little particulates in there but they won’t hurt you.

Step 4: Evaporation (optional)

If your end product is too weak you can leave the jar open in front of a fan. It goes quickly this way so keep an eye on it.

If you pour the tincture into a flat pan and let ALL of the alcohol evaporate you will be left with something close to shatter.

Step 5: Bottling

Depending on the amount I either store it in mason jars or pour it into droppers.

So that does it. I’ll probably edit this here and there but the recipe stays the same. I have had tremendous success with this recipe with both flower and ABV. Please start a chat with me if anything is confusing or you need help!
