I moderate r/OhioHookups and have written hundreds of lines of code for my automod, have access to and enabled various filters, mod-bots, Reddit beta-testing features (features that are only available to a selection of communities); and custom created the web banner, mobile banner & icon. I have also written a detailed ”See community info” sidebar that includes safety tips & plan on adding additional information regarding free STI testing & more.

Using the various tools & filters noted above, I’ve successfully been able to weed out a majority of the spam, scams & OF accounts before the post hits the feed.

I’ve noticed that most NSFW moderators are unaware or unmotivated to understand that the responsibility of running a successful NSFW sub requires a select skill set, which includes understanding how to write code and set up automod.

It’s the main reason I took over moderation from the last mod team at OhioHookups; I was tired of no one doing anything about the spam. Comparing my sub to the rest of Ohio’s NSFW subs, I genuinely am proud of all the work I’ve put in & it definitely shows.

It’s unfortunate that a lot of the NSFW subreddits are moderated by people who just don’t care to improve the sub or don’t care to put in the effort to LEARN how to improve the sub (which does require some knowledge in writing code)

Actually, the mods that previously moderated r/OhioHookups still moderate a few of the other NSFW Ohio subreddits (one of them having almost a monopoly with a main and his alt) & you can tell they all aren’t sufficiently moderated…. Thankfully I was able to kick those mods out of OhioHookups as they were creating drama between users & the other mod had a particular issue with being incredibly rude to users…

OhioHookups uses strict title & posting rules to not only better the quality of the subreddit overall, but also these strict automated rules I’ve written weeds out at least 95% if not more, spam/scams/bots etc.

I am also working on coding a step-by-step walkthrough using one of Reddit’s newest features (Post Guidance): that allows a user to correct mistakes in their post as they are typing with real-time notifications within the post creation.

I have quite a few other projects I’m working on for OhioHookups as well; I just wanted to chime in & share yours and others same frustration with most of the NSFW subreddits. It’s unfortunate that a lot of these subs are moderated by people who should not have any business moderating such subs without the specific skill set that is necessary for NSFW subs.
