SUVS vs Trucks. Is it even that big of a deal these days?
Post Body

I don't mean this as any kind of jab at either platform. I'm just curious. My entire life (I turned 40 26 minutes ago) it seemed that just about everyone who was into this (aside from straight mud bogging) did so in an SUV. It was explained to me, years and years ago, that it was typically due to the lack of heft over the rear axle. Hence why they are preferred for mud and not so much a rocky climb. There was also something about rigidity but not sure how accurate that is.

With the (to me?) massive rise in not only 4x4s in general but trucks, it seems that whatever differences the two have, they are not enough to give one a leg up over the other given the same relevant specs (engine, suspension, transmission and 4x4 options).

But there doesn't seem to be anything that addressed that rear weight (lack thereof) issue since back in the day. I'm not sure if this is even a "thing" out in the actual world vs my little corner. What are some of ya'lls thoughts on this?

Again, really NOT trying to get some "TRUKS ROOL THIS SKOOL" type thing going. It's really something that interests me and I've seen a lot of awesome insight and useful posts here, so hoping to catch me some of that action, lol.

Shhh, if we don't talk about my age, it won't be true! How the hell can I be 40 when I still feel 18? Well, mentally anyway, lol.

I can't argue with your logic as it's...logical and applicable stuff.

Thanks for not turning this into a this vs that thing. Think I'll be spending more time on this sub!

That seems to be the ultimate conclusion I have been inching towards. The differences ultimately seem to be negligible or easily remedied. The locals turned me off to trucks due to their mentality. Obviously they are a small set of a huge group that don't rep anyone but their Daddys Money Sema builds. But nothing really wrong with those either, really.

This post made me realize I have really strong opinions about shit that means absolutely nothing, lol.

Ditto. Nothing against them in general, but aside from a single time, I've only ever owned SUVs. I was secretly impressed with my 2009 F150 FX4. My first Ford since the 96 Bronco. But it just couldn't go where I needed it to. Where my other vehicles would have zero issues (some in 2wd) on a certain rather steep and rocky hill. I do mean steep. The inclinometer (2 different ones I've used) claimed the slope was about 41 at it's butt clinching worst. Ol F150 just spun them weightless rear tires lol
