The virus of the new tech hire.
Post Body

So I met the new tech associate thsts replacing my old position. And he has this customer come in wirh a computer with a virus saying he needs it cleaned and good to go... guy has windows 7 home not pro but home. So the new associate goes okay its this much and this much Yada Yada. He calls me over (after pluging in our bitstorm) and goes "why wonr this work? And im standing there reading in big letters in the heading looks like a application poped up but its a bunch of text saying "we have encrypted your comouter due to a threat. We have isolated your files and computer... then a bunch of words and then you see "send 150 btc to this address to receive the password to unlock your computer" and I go this is ransomware. The next words that came out if his mouth i will not believe were "so its just a virus lets remove it how do you do it its not letting me." I go dude it prolly infected the drive. And sure enough bam everything was DEWAR file type. So nope its done lol

I dont even know what I'm supposed to do with the infected drive. Do I just put it in tech recycling?

Comments

As a former tech specialist please keep that guy away from anything besides paper. Anything else would be far to complicated for him. One thing i hated about OD is how piss poor the training is and how crap compucom was. Don't get me wrong, some of the techs where great, but the majority sucked.
