Might be late in the discussion but..
I saw the post of Jinggoy stating that our tv and film industry is being affected due to the influx of foreign tv shows and movies, specifically those from Korea. I've seen a series or a movie or two and yes, they are more entertaining and they have better production value than our local products. Likewise I've also seen local films that are very, very good (On the Job, Honor thy Father, Through Night and Day are personal favorites), sadly these are very few and far in between.
I thought it was fake news at first that he is proposing to ban these shows on streaming/cinemas. But lo and behold I saw the statement on verifiable news websites, and even Robin Padilla is proposing the same. I can rant about making better scripts, better visual effects and whatnot but this just proves that we are racist. Well, in a way, but yeah.
Everytime we face competition from foreigners, our first resolve is to limit their opportunities or outright propose a ban.

Aside from the example above, see below
a few years ago, there was an influx of models coming in from Brazil who came to the country to do modelling work. Our association of models called for a ban for them as they were taking away opportunities from our local models
NCAA recently banned Foreign Student Athletes from competing in Men's Basketball as they were taking opportunities away from young local big men. La Salle and Ateneo are also drawing flak for fielding in Filipino American students in their lineups.
Some organizations are calling for a cap on foreign students taking up medicine in the country, stating that they are taking slots away from local students who wish to be doctors.
We hate it when foreigners shine or excel in our country, yet we do not have problem when someone who has .00576% of Filipino blood makes a name for themselves overseas. Lol i dunno if this is true but I think we celebrated a miss universe winner whose maid was pinoy.
Now imagine if..
Kai Sotto was not allowed to play in the NBL (Australia League) because he's taking away a slot from an aspiring Australian basketball player.
You are qualified for a graduate program overseas, but you are passed upon because there are only a certain number of slots for foreign students
Arnel Pineda cannot use the likeness of the band name Journey because he is pinoy.
Sucks that most of us are afraid of competition and being left behind and our best resolve is to go by tradition and shun modern influences outside the Philippines. We have proven time and time again that we are capable of accomplishing things, so why are we being insecure? I guess part of the frustration is that we have more things to worry about rather than focusing on things that are unproductive naman for the most part.
Haayyy another day in the Philippines.
