Lipstick on my mug
Post Body

I’m normally very patient and would just keep any grievance to myself, but I just spent two hours scrubbing smeared food on the floor, vacuuming crumbs off the carpet, picking up Reese’s wrappers, wiping surfaces with a rag dipped in alcohol, sweeping every nook and cranny of the bedroom she used, and then re-washing dishes that still had lipstick on them.

I love my sister very much, but my god, she is a slob. And that’s putting it mildly. My nieces (16 and 11) spent their school break with me last July-Aug, yet I barely noticed any change in the house. My monthly cleaner even commented that there was less cleaning needed. They were that responsible.

My sister, who stayed for five days, left a maelstrom of trash, dust, soiled clothes, and hair clumps. She used my mug and spoon (I am OC about people using the utensils assigned to them) mere minutes after I told her where hers are kept.

She likes eating in bed but forgets to use a tray or tissue paper to wipe her hands. She leaves wrappers on top of the dresser when there is a trash bin right next to it. I mean, the trash bin is right there. What is wrong with you?! She brings in her shoes and tracks in dirt from outside when, in fact, there is a shoe cabinet right by the door and a house slipper is specifically assigned to her. She can clearly see the hamper, but she leaves her discarded clothes on the floor and on the living room couch, which, by the way, is also matted with sticky food bits. She already has carte blanche of my closet, but really, she decides to use my hairbrush, too? What’s next, my toothbrush?!

My sister is known to be quite good-looking, and she works really hard to earn her own money. So when she married a guy who does not have a job and is so terrified of people that he can’t even get his own ID without my sister accompanying him, the entire family disapproved. But my god. I truly appreciate him now. The things he must be putting up with, I can’t even imagine. It’s a wonder their house is still habitable, given my sister’s abhorrent habits.

It’s probably true what they say: Behind every beautiful woman is a man (or woman) tired of her shit. I sure am with hers.
