Hi everyone, one of the properties I've talked about before, 5 acres, seems like a prime candidate for a shallow well. There are 3 known springs on the property (1 flowing and 2 seeps) that have clean water year round, so it would seem i should be able to get clean water from a shallow well. If I had to guess, I'd bet I'll hit water within the first 10', but I'm thinking to drive it down to about 20'.
My thought was to use just a sand point tip, but the kits I see out there all seem to use galvanized steel pipe. Is this safe, especially if for drinking? Should I search for stainless instead? Are there any kits that work well? I've seen mention here about using a Harbor Freight impact drill, any recommendations?
Since I know some will ask, my state allows up to 30' without a permit. Likely because most of the state is so dry that you are unlikely to be able to do less than 100' for a well. I'm lucky in that my thought is this would work, although still needing filtration and regular testing. Am I missing something? My concern is while I can use the spring, it's flow is limited, it's elevation requires transfer tanks and pumps to get enough storage (thinking 2500 gallons), to then be able to pump through the system. A well solves this allowing me to pump directly to storage, then boost pump, pressure tank, and filtration to the water distribution system for the property.
