I see there are a lot of questions about when will new orders ship. I have a lot of experience in launching new products so I thought I could help provide some insight into how to estimate time to ship based on your order number. This could change if demand blows up now that reviews are out but letโs assume the market for a high end emulator is strong but less than 5k orders a month. In that case I expect new orders would ship in 4-6 weeks rather than 3-4 months.
It comes down to how many units can be made a day vs total demand
I am basing this on details in the indiegogo updates as well as my career experience in supply chain and Operations where I currently work as a manufacturing program manager launching new consumer electronics products with China based production.
-Final assembly started on 1/10 with black units. Capacity is reported at 200 units a day (UPD) though itโs unclear if this is 200 UPD total regardless of color and model or 200 UPD per color and/or model.
-1/25 was the last working day for AYN before Chinese Lunar New Year (CNY).
-If they work a 6 day work week they would have had 14 days of production from 1/10-1/25. At 5d a week, 12 days production. Using 200 Total UPD, units completed in that time at 2.4k-2.8k.
-The last government holiday for CNY is 2/4. Post CNY Production likely resumes either on Saturday 2/5 or Monday 2/7. This means there are 16-20 production days in February where they can produce between 3.2k-4k units. That would bring total production through end of Feb to 5.6k-6.8k.
-I ordered my Odin Pro unit on 1/28 and was order #6829. Not accounting for color/model demand/capacity splits, raw output would put expected ship date end of February.
-This could be slightly sooner if they have increased capacity for colors or separate lines for base/pro and lite. It also could be longer if they have head count loss in the factory from workers not coming back after CNY which is not uncommon.
