Here is another Abbott pharmaceutical from my collection.
Abbott Labs - Nembutal-C - Each tablet contains; 50mg (3/4gr) Pentobarbital Calcium.
Nembutal-C was a short acting Barbiturate used as a Sedative/Hypnotic.
To me, this was the first time I came across a substance in Calcium (Ca2 ) presentation as opposed to a salt (Sodium), especially for a Barbiturate. Later I would collect a Squibb product called Ipral Calcium (Probarbital - ethylisopropylbarbituric Acid).
After the synthesis of Pentobarbital Sodium in 1921, Abbott Labs used the substance in practically every possible way. Nembutal-C was a different formulation of Pentobarbital to market as having better intra-cellular absorption. However, the Calcium Ion version didn't have a real advantage over the Sodium and was rarely prescribed.
