Is linux a huge risk?

Post Body

I have been using Ubuntu and it seems much better for programming. But I am not sure that whether it can be a problem during the school time as the softwares we download like Eclipse or Matlab may not be compatible. And they recommend us to use Windows or MacOS.

I was wondering your guys experiences on this especially the CSE folks. Should I use linux or keep using windows? In order to not have problems with school work?

Thanks.

I assume when I see someone say something like “<insert platform> seems better for coding” that they don’t have a whole lot of experience with that platform (or coding).

Linux is something that is good to be familiar with, but you’re not going to get a lot of support for. I would not rely on it as my primary OS unless you really enjoy troubleshooting any and all compatibility issues.
