New to this... using OPNsense instead of buying a router

Post Body

I am thinking about making my own router using OPNsense instead of buying one for my home.

Basically I game (a LOT) and stream so I just need something stable and reliable. I have experience building PCs but I've never built my own router before so all of this is completely new to me.

Right now I'm looking into getting a Protectli vault and putting OPNsense on it and then getting a tp link access point to connect the wireless devices in my home.

I saw a lot of people use switches with their firewall hardware, but in my house only 1 device (my pc) gets connected via ethernet. So, is a switch necessary for me? Could I just connect my pc into the Protectli and then also connect the tp link AP for all my other devices?

Additional info:

My internet plan is 800 mbps DL / 20 mbps UL from xfinity.

My modem is Arris s33 v2 modem.

Which would be the cheapest Protectli that would work for my situation? Product Comparison - Protectli Firewalls at a glance (How do I know what connection speeds each device is capable of? And do I need to purchase anything else to use them with besides a USB flash drive? Like storage or anything?)

And for the wifi AP, I was thinking of this one TL-WA1201 | AC1200 Wireless Access Point | TP-Link (It says it's capable of 800 mbps at 5ghz and 300 mbps at 2.4ghz which would honestly be enough for the wireless devices my house)

Any suggestions or resources are welcome! Please and thank you!
