With the fear that is ever present
Permeating every fiber of my being
Eggshells under every tentative step. Wisps of smoky tarred tendrils
Binding my hands together
Slowing down my steps

Every step as if I was standing still
Head hanging low
Breath a bare whisper in the still silence

Fire limning every move
Supple and swift
Fiery steps burning bright
Love and hate entwined
Staccato steps with each exhalation of emotion
I hate you, I love you,
Equal measures, delicate balancing act
Push and pull rendering me immobile
As I dance and whirled like a maelstrom
In the silence of my head

I dance in my youth
I dance in fear
I dance in love
I dance in ecstasy
I dance in confusion
I dance in anger
I dance in exhaustion
I dance in the sanctuary of my mind
And nowhere else
