Mel, would you please cut the light,
Let mom stumble up the stairs.
It seems she's on the sauce again,
So if she falls, who cares?
There's the thud and stumble too,
Didn't hear her crack her head.
Let's go pick up all her pieces,
And get her into bed.
You grab her by the left arm,
I'll grab her by the right.
Someday I'll do this by myself,
I'm just too weak tonight.
Soon Mel will be her Chauffeur,
When she's a little older.
Soon too I will be strong enough,
To use just my shoulder.
Until then let's pace ourselves,
Take these shitty nights in stride.
When she's passed out on her pillow,
We can leave her with pride.
Let us never discuss this,
Never speaking mothers curse.
The more we try to bring it up,
The more it makes things worse.
Good lord her stomach grumbles,
And there she goes with vomit.
Let's argue about it later on,
Who cleans up the carpet?
I know our minds are scarring,
And I know our hearts are broke.
Together bear, an unjust load,
This unforgiving yoke.
Let's place her on her stomach,
Prop her up on her right arm.
Don't forget to fetch the bucket;
I'll turn off her alarm.
Let's clean up now together,
Work is light with mini hands.
Then let us off to rest ourselves,
To wake for her demands.

For those who've made it this far, I have a healthy relationship with my mother now. These were words 8 year old me needed to say, but needed a 30 year old's vocab to do it.
