The difference between a willow and a yew
One for pain, which may yet remain
And the other to never feel again!
Medicine or poison, flowing through
The first for salcin, in its vein
The other for sleep, to not wake in vain
Its deadly virtue pure. potent and true.
That I may no longer long for you.
A difference between a fellow and a the man you knew
The first, with thirst, by water blooming burst,
The second, cursed and so ill reheared
for a spell naught readily or rapidly reversed
diverts his hurts, aching with poison nursed
linger through turmoil and strife, oh life so brought anew
so drew a due adieu left lingering: its death ill reversed
Elemental, eternal and fragile yet, night-gifts of morning dew
crumbles into stardust: the world it held in view
The difference between a willow and a yew
Might as well be the difference between my love and want for you
One in reason, my longing thinned, holds against the coup
Of the other in poison, stealing reasons' ration in what I ought to do
Between my love and want for you.
