"I must immediately check to make sure nothing is wrong" is the core issue
What exactly I'd be checking differs from moment to moment, but that's the base fear. Often times it doesn't even have a name or a specific thing, I just feel "I have to something NOW".
I get this thought, and it makes me feel afraid, and then i proceed to my checking behaviours. that's the pattern.
I'm noticing this isn't very helpful or logical. I let myself feel afraid, which has been a big step in the positive direction, but I don't know how to deal with the logic aspect of it. I can sort of see how it is irrational, but I feel afraid and I want to know I'm logically in the right place disregarding the thoughts.
Because disregarding it feels "logically incorrect" and "irresponsible" although I recognize its often irrational ...
I know the way out of this ocd hell is acceptance and to stop checking or looking for reassurance (by checking with mental loops etc) but I feel im doing something wrong, because "what if" something is actually wrong, how will I save myself then?
I don't feel like I can even give myself permission to do the typical remedies like ERP or ACT or meditation because it feels so strongly logically incorrect that it will not let me engage with these activities. I understand emotions are a big part of this, that thoughts and feelings aren't always facts, but still.
