Libido while on OCD meds (sertraline)

Post Body

Hey everyone! I'm a 24 year old female who was diagnosed with OCD at 18 years old. Looking back it's so obvious, but of course hindsight is 20/20. I was initially prescribed 150 mg of sertraline daily, and after a couple of years was able to lower the dose to 100 mg.

For money reasons and because of my insurance I don't really have access to therapy, and definitely not with someone who knows about OCD. But I see my psychiatrist once a year, and with meds and coping skills I manage okay. I could probably be better, but I really don't like the way high doses of sertraline make me feel (kind of numb, no highs or lows just on auto pilot).

My main problem is that I feel my libido has suffered tremendously while being on sertraline. And when I do want to have sex, I have a very difficult time finishing. I actually had to go off birth control because the combined effect meant I had little to no sex drive, even though previously it was very healthy. I brought this up with my doctor on our last appointment and he said there aren't really many options that work as effectively for OCD, and they all have sexual dysfunction as a side effect too. He said I should probably up my dose anyway, and wants me to take 125 mg from now on. This was devastating as I feel my sex life also has a huge impact on my mental health.

I would love to know your experiences, If there's hope out there, I would love to get a second opinion but don't know If I can afford to pay another psychiatrist just to get the same answer.

Thank you
