I usually avoid movie reviews and trailers because I don’t want the film spoiled, but maybe I’m wrong. Reading a positive review before watching makes viewers more “narratively persuaded” by a story, because they’re more emotionally connected with the climax (Appela and Richter 2019).

Yeah I hear that! Speaks to the reason I’ve avoided those things in the first place.
But it does make me wonder though if the reason I find myself less emotionally invested in films than I used to be is that I’ve accidentally self-sabotaged out of caring.
