“Niubility” means “awesomeness” in Chinese English (“niubi” is “cow pussy”). A sociolinguist pointed to the word in an article last week, arguing that we’ve got to start seeing global English speakers’ neologisms as innovations, not deviations (Wei, 2020). Go forth and spread your niubility, y’all!

As someone who’s only ever known Latin script languages, I find it especially fascinating to learn about symbol systems in which the characters are far less-abstract representations of the meanings of words than letters are.
