Defense of Little Beach

Hello And salutations to all 6,921 Friends of Little Beach! We keep building our muscle with a new target of 10,000 Friends. Petition to Governor Josh Green First Petition Submittal - Results The Governor's office passed our Petition to the DLNR where someone had the intelligence to understand the absurdity and bad optics of sending armed police to force beach recreation folks off a beach at 4PM. DLNR Police have not enforced the Saturday/Sunday 4PM closure since March 10. You can now stay to watch the phenomenal sunsets, although, under park rules it remains a criminal act.

No such enlightenment has reached the bigoted and vindictive Hawaii State Park management. They stand by their weekend 4PM closure and nudity prohibition rules. Police enforcement is currently infrequent. The last police raid was Thursday July 4th at 4:30PM with one nudity citation issued.

Next Petition Submittal Please consider if you have any friends or relatives who may want to support Little Beach by signing our PETITION. It is now necessary to double down with 10,000 signatures because Governor Josh Green has not delivered on our very reasonable demands: ♦ Provide authorized Clothing-Optional status with official signage. ♦ Restore pre-Covid opening hours: 5AM - 7:45PM, 365 days/year.

Future Threats Friends of Little Beach is the only authentic representative of Makena State Park users. The misanthropic Hawaii State Park Ruler has already eliminated many visitors with extortionate fees rendering the park an extremely underutilized State asset. Future threats to restrict access include: An existing planned so-called "Improvements Project" which includes fencing-off 107 non-asphalted parking spaces from the North Parking Lot. A publicized plan to create a single point of entry with a booth, and require visitors (not residents) to book and pay online for a time-slot in advance. This will use the Ha'ena State Park model which has eliminated most visitors. A scheme exists to rile native Hawaiians to aid their campaign against nudity on Little Beach. Park management are pressing to have Pu'u Ola'i and Molokini Atoll and "the areas in between" declared a Traditional Cultural Property (TCP) and elevate it to the National Register of Historic Places. Since the TCP is based on Hawaiian mythology, they intend to claim current Hawaiian cultural values will guide the management of "the areas in between" - namely Little Beach and the ocean. Overlooked facts: "the areas in between" are not part of the mythology, and the Hawaiians were the original Naturists on Little Beach.

Indecent Exposure Bullet Dodged The Hawaii 2024 legislative session included a bill for a draconian change in the current "liberal" Indecent Exposure law. Regardless of intention, the act of exposing genitals to a minor when it is likely to cause affront, would result in an elevated penalty of up to 1 year in prison. The act would be regarded as sexual violence against children and thereby put Naturists at risk by just disrobing at the beach. All Hawaii Clothing-Optional beaches are unofficial. They are family beaches with naturists and textiles peacefully coexisting - but with nothing to stop an anti-nudity cop or zealot with a kid showing up. The bill was supported by all County Prosecutors and the Attorney General.

The AANR sent a lobbyist to testify in opposition. FoLB, "representing over 6,000 members," provided written testimony in opposition to the Senate Judiciary Committee twice, and emailed every member of the House Judiciary Committee. The Senate passed it unanimously except for one vote. Fortunately there were too many bills and no time, and the bill was swamped in the final melee. We will be watching for its resurrection in the 2025 legislative session. Thank you for being a member and extra thanks if you donated too!
