Can someone help me understand The Master and Margarita?

I am almost finished The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. I understand that it is a commentary on Russia in the 1930s but I am having difficulty understanding the philosophic point it is trying to make. Would love to hear your perspective.
