Recently got my sl mkiii but having issues with my setup because of my lack of USB ports (2015 MBP)

I bought a midi cable and when I plug this into my interface (behringer umc204), the sl outputs sound but not all controls work, especially “in control” mode, like the transport/play/record controls don’t work at all. Is this normal? They work fine thru usb. Already tried playing with ableton preferences and the sl’s settings.

I would be fine using it via USB but when I plug it into my USB hub (unpowered, and a very cheap one) the sl doesn’t always register as an input. My Bluetooth mouse plugged into the same hub also starts lagging, and the only other thing plugged in is my ssd.

The powerhub is USB 3 with a max speed of 5gbp/s, and I think that’s the max for my Mac bc it’s USB 3.0. It has a power input but I don’t have the cable, and I imagine it’s pretty shit anyway as it was $10. So will getting a powered one fix my issue? anyone use their sl through a USB hub successfully? If so which one?
