Recent post here showed a graph with average GDP per capacity per province in Canada and US states. NS came in dead last. As most would know we have a large rural & city seniors population in Nova Scotia. These people do not contribute to GDP as they don't produce anything. I also don't believe public institutions such as our universities etc count towards GDP (Though I may be wrong)
Looking at other metrics though Nova Scotia is not last in North America. Overall Canada - including NS has a higher median net worth than most US states:

US States Median Net Worth

Comparing HDI Nova Scotia had a 2021 HDI of 9.09

Comparing to USA this puts us in the middle - similiar HDI to Arizona, Texas & Florida.

Picking and choosing data shows a different story. One where NS is not the bottom of North America - and anyone who has been to Mississippi or Alabama would more than know this fact. How much money a population makes for companies does not always compare to the happiness, health, or wealth of a population.
